Description
The renovation of sports surfaces through abrasion of the surface layer and subsequent recoating is becoming ever more important as an alternative to complete renewal. The reason is, in this way, considerable costs and materials are saved. After the recoating, the thickness and consquently the technical properties of the surface coating remain preserved or may even be improved.
The RauMatic R251 is a milling machine for milling off the surface coating from elastic PU sports surfaces. In this process, the milling cylinder abrades the surface away with a speed of approx. 3.000 rpm. The milling cylinder is approx. 350 mm wide and equipped with milling discs which use tungsten carbide. The machine’s built-in suction system immediately extracts the abraded material away from the milling tool and simultaneously cools the work area. In this way, any detrimental heating-up of the tools and the coating is prevented.
The material is immediately transferred into a filter unit. Cartridge filters separate the exhaust air from the abraded material. This is caught in a dirt container with a capacity of 500 liters and can be disposed of with a minimum of effort. The use of several interchangeable containers makes it possible to work continuously without prolonged interruption. The thickness of material to be abraded is regulated automatically in the millimeter range through a touch probe system. Thicknesses from 1 to 5 mm can be removed in one work operation. Depending on the quality of the substructure, the new surface layer can then be applied as required.
The drive for the machine is provided by an extra powerful diesel engine, producing 70 kW (96 HP) of power. The steering and the feed drive are provided using hydraulics. A hydraulic motor brings the filter cartridges into position in rotation for cleaning-off. When full, the dirt container can be hydraulically lowered for removal and is then replaced with an empty container.
